What is the Doctrine of the Trinity?
What is the doctrine of the Trinity? As the church, we believe that “there is one God” who is more than one as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit as the Nicene Creed goes, “We believe in one God, the Father almighty… And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God… And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life… “ Unity and diversity! One and three! This is the doctrine of the Trinity.
While all three persons of the Godhead are fully God and are to be worshiped, it was God the Father who sent God the Son as the man Jesus and it was God the Spirit who empowered Jesus of Nazareth, God the Son in flesh.
All three persons worked together to complete the work of salvation as the Nicene Creed states of God the Son, “for our salvation he came down from heaven; he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and was made human. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried. The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.”
